You’ve never been to Worms?
Well, what are you waiting for?
On
these pages, you’re bound to find an interesting sightseeing offer for yourself,
your friends or customers. No matter whether you’re interested in the city’s
history or want to experience the special flair of the city centre, Worms has
something to offer for everybody.
For true wine lovers, opening an interesting vintage is a special experience.
Every bottle of wine, even of the same type, has its own individual character
defined by the maturity of the wine, its bouquet and taste.
The cork contributes to the quality of the bottle’s content, especially when the
bottle is stored for several years. The cork screw only came into use in the 17th
century. Since then, cork screws have become ever more comfortable and crumbling
of the cork is almost impossible today.
Wine always has been the best friend of people. Even the heroes in Homer’s epics
drank a lot of wine and always offered libations to the gods. And Noah planted
vineyards and enjoyed wine to the fullest; Jesus himself provided the wedding
guests in
Kana
with sufficient wine.
Wine can bring joy, love, even wittiness but it also can lead to drunkenness and
lecherousness. To describe the sensual impression of wine we could say: the
colour of wine can glow and shimmer like a precious stone; the bouquet combines
earth and fruit; and the taste reflects full and mellow nuances. There are
thousands of wines and each has its own special character.
For a special wine experience, go visit one of the numerous vineyards in Worms
to get to know the diversity of wines there. Enter one of the street inns or
Straßenwirtschaften or simply arrange a tasting with one of the many
hospitable winegrower families in our region.
A special experience: Enjoy a wine tasting in Worms!
The grapevine is a twine in regions with moderate, Mediterranean climate. Wild
forms brought the grapes to fruition high up in the tree tops. But people
trimmed the trees. The grapevine, loving the sun and thriving on permeable soil,
still strives towards the sun.

The roots of the grapevine can grow several metres into the soil; it will not
wither even in dry times. A relentless pest for the grapevines is the grape
phylloxera. It came to Europe from America around 1860. The American grape
varieties, however, were resistant. It took years to develop a counteragent for
fighting the grape phylloxera.
